Welcome to the Cherry Lane School, a K-2 school in the Carle Place School District.

The staff and I embrace the philosophy that all students can learn and feel good about themselves. Toward that endeavor, we have made a commitment for our integrated curriculum to be child-centered, literature-based, immersed in Reading & Writing and process oriented. Our school motto is Let's Go: Learning, Equity, Teaching, Success, Growth and Opportunity.

Cherry Lane Mission Statement

As a primary school, we seek to impart a respect for the world, a body of academic information, a mastery of basic skills and a joy in learning so that growth continues beyond the school day and beyond the school years.

Since we want our pupils to develop and expand their innate intellectual, physical and creative abilities, we also assist them in acquiring the sense of self-worth and the self-discipline necessary for such an accomplishment.

Furthermore, since our school is a reflection of the community and the country as a whole, we constantly evaluate our curriculums to make certain that they reflect changing needs.

Finally, we seek to provide programs for all students on all levels of the educational spectrum.

School Goal

Every student has the capability and the right to learn. The Cherry Lane Elementary School exists to provide this opportunity for children in a safe, secure and supportive environment.

The school staff recognizes that the primary goal of education in the Cherry Lane School is to meet the educational needs of all our children. Most significantly, the following objectives formulate a philosophical basis for attaining this goal.

Our school curriculum is designed to:

  • Develop proficiency with the basic skills
  • Encourage our children to learn about their own environment and the interrelationships that exist in a changing world
  • Assist our children in developing aesthetic sensitivities, talents, and skills Instill an appreciation for people of all races, nationalities, and creeds, and to work cooperatively toward common goals.
  • Build an understanding of rights and privileges guaranteed in a form of government and to assume the individual and group responsibility allied with these rights and privileges.

Students Safety

Student safety is a priority throughout the school year. There are building procedures in place to ensure the security and well being of our students.

Building Security

Building security is maintained at all times. After students' arrival to school, all entrance doors are locked and secured. All visitors must sign in, apply security tag, report to the school office and sign out when leaving.

Fire Drills

New York State Education Law requires that twelve emergency exit drills be held during a school year. Eight of these drills must be held between September 1 and December 1. When the fire bell sounds, all occupants of this building will evacuate immediately and in silence.

October is Fire Prevention Month. The Carle Place Fire Volunteer Department visits our building and presents a classroom demonstration. We encourage family participation in home fire drills.

Emergency Dismissal Drill

In compliance with the Commissioner of Education Regulations and as part of the NYS SAVE Legislation, the Carle Place School District must schedule one annual test of an Early Dismissal Plan. A district plan has been developed to address other various types of emergencies and disasters which may be encountered within each school facility, as well as the community in general. Parents will be notified via letter regarding this and other school drills.

Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to become involved in our schools. Opportunities include membership in the Cherry Lane PTA, Building Planning Team, and SEPTA (Special Education PTA). Additionally, parents are encouraged to accompany their child on field trips, volunteer for field days, picnics, and other school events.

Please feel free to contact the Cherry Lane PTA, SEPTA or your child's teacher for further information. The PTA president is Patti Froehlich and the SEPTA co-presidents are Elaine Smith and Fran Comito.

PTA Message

The Cherry Lane PTA is a very active organization. The many parent committees coordinate programs and special activities that build a solid school-home partnership. We encourage all parents to take an active role in their child's education. PTA membership is the first step toward that goal.
